Keyword Density – Optimize for Business Success, Not for Search Engines!

Omaha SEO_Website Design TipsSearch Engine Optimization and Internet Marketing in general is something that you’re already aware that you need to be doing, and keyword density is just a very small factor in article and page content. Depending which Omaha SEO Company you talk to, they’ll either tell you that it’s critical or not, but one thing is for sure, it’s a determining factor for search engines!

There’s no single company that actually can give you a definitive answer as to how much keyword density is too much as the algorithms created by Search Engines like Google are kept secret. We do know however that if your keyword density is higher than 5%, you’re pretty much wasting your time writing content!  How do we know this?  We’ve tested it. Big Red SEO is a leading Omaha SEO Company servicing Nebraska, Iowa and Midwest Companies. Our SEO Team not only help users achieve higher rankings, but we’ve tested the methods over the past 15 years, and we know what works and doesn’t work!

How to Generate Keyword Density

To understand how many keywords should be on a page you will need to understand how the math is generated to determine it. Keyword density is a percentage of the total words on a page. If you have 150 words on a page, and you’re using a keyword 7 times in that content, the keyword is determined by the following: 7 (keyword usage) divided by 150 = 0.0467 or 4.67%. The standard keyword density is between 3% and 5%. If you increase more than 5% you run the risk of having your page rejected by the search engines as you’re essentially spamming your keyword to the engine. Don’t do this as it is considered black hat SEO and can lead to getting sand-boxed!

As Omaha SEO Experts, we recommend keeping the keyword density to between 3% and 5% and you’ll be fine. Keywords can be more than just ONE word, it can be “keyword phrase” often known as a long tail keyword. Remember, niche keywords and plurals count too.  People don’t always search for “SEO” they often search for “SEO service”. Many of our clients have also found us by narrowing their search terms down to “SEO service in Omaha” or “SEO company in Omaha” or even something like “SEO company in Omaha, Nebraska”. Structure your site and pages to cater to these words without becoming spammy. When done right you’ll see your site climb in the search engines, and convert to traffic.

Other Important Factors

While keywords are an important factor for search engine placement, understanding other elements such as links, meta tags, anchor text, press releases, article submission, rss pings and general site navigation are just as equally important. When you employ the services of Big Red SEO we take each of these factors into account and can definitely help with your search engine rankings. The goal is to make it easy for your clients to find you, and experienced search results companies can do this for you.
