As a local SEO company, we have a lot of experience helping Omaha businesses build and grow their online presence. Since Big Red SEO has worked with many different businesses over the years, we’ve received lots of questions about search engine optimization (SEO) and marketing in general. One of the most common questions we receive is whether or not it’s still worth advertising in the Yellow Pages.

While there are exceptions, based on all our experience and data, the answer to most questions is no. The majority of Omaha businesses will get a much better return on investment (ROI) from investing in SEO than they would from paying for Yellow Pages. We’ve believed this theory for a long time, and it has continued to be proven correct year after year for all of our clients. Because we are a local SEO company, it would be easy to dismiss our answer as biased. Below, we elaborate on exactly why we stand where we do in the Yellow Pages vs. SEO discussion.

Yellow Pages Have Been in Decline for Over a Decade

Although we fully understand why plenty of Omaha businesses still have Yellow Pages questions, the reality of this situation was made clear quite awhile ago. If you look at the Google Trends search and interest volume for Yellow Pages, you will see that this term peaked in August of 2004. While countless terms spike up and down over time, Yellow Pages has been in a steady decline for a full decade!

Even though that graph is a very powerful visual, it’s far from being the only evidence of the Yellow Pages’ decline. Not only have multiple Yellow Pages companies gone through numerous layoffs and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but the Yellow Pages brand is now trying to position itself as a provider of SEO services.

The Long-Term Benefits of Working with an Experienced Local SEO Company

The ironic thing about the Yellow Pages getting involved in SEO is they could have avoided their current situation if they would have seen this trend coming over a decade ago. However, because the Yellow Pages brand simply doesn’t understand Internet marketing, the last thing you would want is to put them in charge of your online marketing efforts. On the other hand, working with a SEO company that actually has a track record of experience and success is a great way to help your business grow.
