With marketing ever-evolving at a rapid pace, every business owner or sales professional is seeking that one “magic” ingredient to maximize their ROI. In most cases, they’ll put in the hours, they’ll tackle their mile-long task lists and take a “no” as a “not right now, but maybe later.” But they will have no clue what their online presence is. In many cases, business owners haven’t ever sat down to create a business plan or establish what their ideal target market is. Let’s face it, if you have a marketing strategy in-hand prior to meeting with a marketing consultant or business coach, you’re a rare breed.
For Fast Results You Need to Pull Your Weight
The majority of us want the fastest results with the least amount of effort. The challenge is that those who excel and make their businesses work for them (versus working for their businesses) are willing put in the effort to learn what they need to.
But what happens if you think you’ve done what’s necessary to succeed, but the success doesn’t come? When the sales goal becomes more of a task that leads to mild depression. What happens when everything you’ve tried seems to have failed or leads to disappointing results?
Do you fire your business coach, Omaha internet marketing agency, and cancel your Yellow Pages subscription? In some cases I’ve seen all three happen at once. I challenge you to ask yourself the following questions:
Were you focused in your efforts?
Did you truly know and understand what you were purchasing, or did you show up for the sales meeting, sign the contract and hope for better results while sitting back and watching others do the work for you?
It’s Your Company, Get Involved in Your Omaha Internet Marketing
As a business owner myself, I’m the first to admit I have control issues for three main reasons:
- It’s my brand. Our logo is not just nine letters mixed together. It’s a name that shows the heart of what we do and where we’re from (sorry Hawkeye fans!).
- It’s my reputation. While our company is lead by a fantastic team, at the end of the day if something I invested in doesn’t work, it’s my fault. I’m the one who signs the contract and I’m the one who will be set to answer the team if it doesn’t rise to meet our company or client expectations. Believe it or not, I’m thankful that our team is open enough to tell me when something isn’t as good as I promised it would be. We are not a team of “yes” people. Instead we lead with “why!”
- It’s our reputation and that’s worth its weight in gold. We’ve been fortunate to surround ourselves with like-minded people who will hold us accountable for what we say. If I mention to my mentor that I’m investing in an advertisement spot in a magazine they will ask “why?” And more than likely follow up with “what do you expect to earn with that? What’s your plan after it publishes? How will you know if it’s a success?” They ask these questions as I’ve asked them during their investments.
The point is that with any investment, Omaha internet marketing included, you need to do your homework. You need to have a list of expectations and you need to do your part.
The best advice I’d give to all of you is get involved. Find out what your current online presence is. Determine where you want to be. Establish if that goal is realistic (trust me, in 4 years we’ve seen clients set some high goals — some accomplished them, others failed). Learn what the numbers mean and the terminology we use.
